Focus on Reading is an intensive professional learning program for teachers to support the explicit teaching of the key aspects of reading in the middle and upper primary years namely comprehension, vocabulary and reading text fluency. It encourages teacher reflection on their practice, the purpose of the texts presented, student engagement and motivation. We brokered for this program and have been successful. Our Stage 2 and 3 supervisors will commence their intensive training shortly and then guide the professional learning of their staff here at school.
We have brokered for other professional learning opportunities but with changes within school regions and the realignment strategies within the Department, we are yet to find out whether we will be offered other opportunities this year but we are hopeful that we will.
