Last year, our school responded to a National call to nominate someone very special in our community who gave freely of their time as a volunteer.
There was no hesitation as to who this should be in our school community. We chose to nominate the person who gave so freely of her time to broaden the cultural experiences of our children through bringing the value of music and performance into their lives. This is someone who has a tremendous work ethic and in return expects commitment from her students and time to put into practice and rehearsals. This may be through the band, a choir, an eisteddfod item or a major performance.
Of course we are speaking of Mrs Marlene Jones, known fondly by students and staff as "Chick".
Yesterday (Monday), we held a special assembly so that Chick could receive her National Volunteer Award. To present this award was our Federal Member for Parkes, Mr Mark Coulton. Mr Coulton and his wife had travelled a very long way to be here especially for the presentation, and Chick, although very modest about all the work she does for our students, was very pleased and honoured to accept the award.
Chick, this year has taken over the management of the school band to ensure this valuable opportunity remains as an extra curricula activity for children who have a talent for playing a musical instrument. Chick is also slowly working away at preparations for a major school musical production in Term 4 this year. What a fabulous asset she is to our school and very deserving of a National Volunteers Award.
