Yesterday a large number of people supporting the reforming of a Wellington Aboriginal Education Consultative Group (AECG) met at the High School to discuss their plans to make this happen. The interest was very pleasing and the willingness of people to take on executive positions was very commendable. With this group in operation we can look forward to sharing our responsibilities for reducing the performance gaps between indigenous and non-indigenous students and providing improved teaching and learning to see a greater number of Aboriginal students achieving competency levels, particularly in Literacy and Numeracy through increased engagement and improved attendance.
We hope that this will involve strengthening partnerships with parents and having parents take an increased interest and involvement in the learning of their children. We need to discuss and be reassured that all parents want the best for their children and work with us to achieve this goal. We want to create the best learning environment for all children.
This is your community school and it takes a community to raise a child.
