Evans wins Athletics Carnival 2014

On Thursday 22nd May, Wellington Public School held its annual Athletics Carnival.  A great day was had by all and the weather was just beautiful.

A big, big thank you to all who arrived early to set up and those who were there at the end to pack up.  Thank you also to Wellington Little A's Association for the use of their equipment.

A huge thank you must go to our wonderful P & C and small band of parent helpers for running the canteen and providing the staff and officials with lovely cake.  Thank you, your hard work and dedication to our school is appreciated.

I would also like to give my personal thanks to the wonderful staff of WPS, you were fantastic in your roles and without you the carnival would not have been as successful as it was.  Mrs Eather once again did a superb job on the microphone – thank you.

Congratulations to all the students of WPS who attended the carnival.  Your behaviour and sportsmanship was to be commended.  Numbers were up on previous years and I'm sure they will continue to increase.

A huge achievement was made by 4 WPS students who broke records.  Hannah Petrovic broke the 11year girls Shot Put Record.  It was 7.89m and Hannah threw a huge 8.40m.  The 8years girls 100m record of 18.90 was broken by the speedy Georgia Veech who ran a fast 18.39.  The 9years girls 100m record of 17.60 was broken by the talented Aishat Kareem.  The 8years boys 100m record of 17.09 was broken by Asher Rootes who ran like the wind running a 16.60.  WELL DONE to these athletic students, what a fantastic achievement!!!

Well Done to Evans House who were overall winners of the carnival with a total of 754 points.  Oxley House were a close second with 733 points.  Sturt were a very close third with 731 points and Mitchell had 697 points.  It just goes to show that entry points can make all the difference.

Our wonderful champions were outstanding on the day showing their athletic ability.  The 2014 Athletic Age Champions are as follows:

Junior Boy –Arthur Taylor     11yrs Boy –   Justin Walker    Senior Boy – Lewis McCarthy

Junior Girl –EmersonHumphries  11yrs Girl -   Shannagh Chatfield  Senior Girl – Sharmeakah Riley

Congratulations to all the ribbon receivers, the Age Champions and Evans house on their success.

The Dubbo District Athletics Carnival is on in August.  A note will go home if your child will be representing WPS in this carnival.

Thank you
