PBL Leading the Way

Last week we had our Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL) coach, Rosalee Whiteley, come to our school to assess our continued progress in the implementation of PBL. Her job was to ask questions of students, teachers, PBL team members and myself.

Rosalee scored our responses and I am pleased to say that the result was fabulous. Our score was 100% so naturally, we are all very pleased. This means that team representatives can now engage in further training and when they decide we are ready, we will be able to move on. Up until now our PBL has focused mainly on non-classroom settings. This means that teachers have focused their explicit teaching about being safe, respectful and being a learner in the playground, on the asphalt moving around the school and has included things like being sun-safe, sharing playground spaces, using good manners, lining up correctly at the canteen and playing fairly.

The PBL teams' job is to collect data, identify any problems and where these problems are most likely to occur and implement changed systems to make things safer and ensure students are respectful of the school and other people.

Future staff training will move into classroom settings but when this happens is yet to be determined.

Congratulations! 100% - you can't do better than that! (this means that everyone who was interviewed could give the right responses to the coach's questions.
