McCarthy Wins at Mudgee

Lewis McCarthy has been crowned the Western Grass Greens champion for 2014 after claiming the title last Tuesday at Mudgee Golf Course. Lewis handled the quick Mudgee greens better than the other competitors to win the 18 hole competition by more than 11 shots.

Early Tuesday morning the WPS golf consisting of Thomas and Lewis McCarthy, Mason Humphries, Brad O'Brien and Will Eather travelled to Mudgee to compete in the annual Western Grass Greens Classic. To begin the day the boys were treated to a chipping and putting clinic run by local pro Peter Mayson. Thomas McCarthy was a wizard with the sand wedge in hand and selected by pro Peter Mayson to demonstrate to the rest of the field how to chip correctly. With the clinic over it was time to hit the course. Mason Humphries was ripping massive drives down the fairway all day with his biggest over 190 metres. Brad O'Brien started strongly with some beautiful iron shots and some nicely timed putts, bar the "one" that cost his score card (you know what hole I'm talking about Brad!) Will Eather sunk a difficult 20 foot putt on the 8thhole which was a highlight of the day. Thomas, Brad, Mason and Will all finished outside the top ten. A great day was had by all and a special thanks to Trent Forrest for giving up some of his beauty sleep to make the early start.

Thanks, Mr Bullock.
